New Group Clothing!

We are excited to announce that we now have a brand new range of Marden Scout Group clothing available!

Marden Scout Group have teamed up with Total Clothing Ltd to set up its very own web shop to offer group personalised leisure clothing:

This clothing line is entirely optional and does not form part of the official uniform, however, there are certain occasions such as activities, excursions and camps where youth and adult members alike may appreciate the opportunity to don less formal group wear.

The entire sales transaction is handled directly with the retailer, Total Clothing, to provide you with a fast and efficient service to the door.

Christmas Volunteers needed!!

Posted on November 10th, 2018 by mardenscouts

After the success of 2017, where £350 was raised for Marden Scout Group, The Paddock Wood and District Lions Club are again bringing their Santa Sleigh to delight the children of Marden on Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th of December (routes each night TBC).

Volunteers are needed to accompany the brightly lit and musical sleigh on its journey around the village, handing out gifts and collecting donations. All those present must be aged 16+ (unfortunately you can’t bring younger children with you). Volunteers meet at 4.30 pm in a central village location, and the rounds finish well before 7 pm.

Please check your calendar and sign up in the comments on our Facebook post or alternatively contact Frances Weir on, indicating the night(s) you can help with. The share of the proceeds we receive depends directly on the number of volunteers we provide.

This is a fun, festive and social way of raising a very decent amount of money for the Group so please volunteer (or volunteer a family member!) if you are able to at all, we do need as many people as possible.

I’d also like to say a huge thank you to Frances for organising our participation for another year, without the help and support of volunteers at events such as this the Scout Group would not be able to provide all the fun and adventure our young members deserve.

Thank you in advance!

Working Party- 3rd November (+ free bacon butties!)

Posted on October 14th, 2018 by mardenscouts

Dear Parents & Friends of Marden Scout Group

Earlier in the year we noticed that the wall at the rear of the grounds required some attention as the top brick courses were loose. We looked at getting this attended to by building companies but even the cheapest quotes would have made a significant dent into the Scout Group Funds.

One of our Leader team’s partners is a brick layer by trade and has very kindly offered to help however the work needed will require more than his pair of hands.

We will be holding a working party on Saturday 3rd November from 8.30 am.  The aim of this working party is to take down the top 4 / 5 courses of bricks and clean off any old mortar that is on the bricks, in readiness for them to be re-used / re-relayed in the repair of the wall (this will keep expenses down).

The help of volunteers with any knowledge / tackled similar would be appreciated however it is a relatively straight forward DIY job so really only eagerness to help is the only skill needed!  The more volunteers we have the quicker and easier the job will be to complete.  We would hope with enough help that we would be finished by lunchtime.

We would ask that volunteers please bring their own tools (hammers, chisels, bolsters, work gloves, protective eye wear), and dress appropriately for the work / weather. If you own a wheelbarrow, these would be handy to have available, similarly we will need a number of step ladders / ladders / platform to work from.

The Scout Troop will be camping at the HQ over the weekend and will be providing Bacon butties & hot drinks to all our volunteers.

If you are able to help, please can you e-mail by Thursday 25th October. If you have a wheelbarrow, ladders / platform can you please make him aware in your message. (or if you have any special dietary requirements).

Please do not assume that others will volunteer, we do need help from all.  If we do not get sufficient volunteers, we will have to employ builders and spend the Scout Group’s hard-earned funds.

Yours in Scouting

Remembrance Day – 11th November 2018

Posted on October 14th, 2018 by mardenscouts

This years’ service will be held on Sunday 11th November at St. Michael & All Angels Church in Marden.

We will meet at the Scout HQ at 10:20 and all members need to wear full uniform (with a poppy) ensuring they are as smart as possible (ironed scarves & shiny shoes!).  We will then parade to the church where the service will commence at 10.50am and will last for approximately 1hour, during which a collection will be taken for the Royal British Legion.

As a Group we ask all Leaders, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers to attend Marden’s Remembrance Service to remember and pay our respects to all those who have given their lives while doing their duty. We are always very well represented by our members and we hope that the good turnout continues on this year.

New Beaver Colony!!

Posted on April 22nd, 2018 by mardenscouts

With a large number of young people on our Beaver waiting lists, back in mid-February we held an Open event and invited young people and their parents to join us to experience for themselves the fun and adventure Scouting can be.  Our Beaver Leaders David & Alison along with Claire from the Cub Leader team ran games & activities (including back woods cooking) and a great morning was had by all.

Seeing the fun that was had, a number of parents came forward to offer help. Over the following 4 weeks, with the support from Leaders from Kent County Scout Team & Jeff our Scout Leader, both the young people & adults had further opportunity to experience more fun through Scouting & for the adult volunteers an insight into being part of a leadership team by planning & running some of the colonies activities.

Over the Easter break we got together with the Adult volunteers and I am really pleased to say that they all wished to continue as part of the Leader Team & carry forward the opening of a new, second Beaver Colony in Marden.  The new Team had lots of great ideas for future activities & put together a fun & exciting programme for the coming months for our new Beaver members holding their first night as a new Colony last week.

I am sure you will join me in wishing our new Beavers and their Leader Team all the success for the future and welcome them to Marden Scout Group.

Yours in Scouting
