Marden Cub Pack – Group Announcement

Dear Parents and Members of Marden Scout Group,

I wrote to you earlier in the year to highlight the challenge that we faced having 2 Beaver Colonies and availability of spaces within the existing Cub Pack for those young people due to move up from Beaver to Cubs.

Following our Cub open evening we did have 2 parents come forward and are willing to form part of a Leader team to open and run a second Cub Pack.  We are still in need of additional adults to come forward to join the new Leadership team before we are able to commit to opening a second Cub Pack, not only to share the planning, running and support the Leadership Team but also to ensure that we have adequate adult supervision in the running of the weekly section meetings.

I also brought to your attention previously that Ben Seager, our Cub Scout Leader, has moved away from Marden and is stepping down at the end of this Summer Term.  While Claire Rendell has agreed to take the role of Cub Scout Leader, the Pack also require additional adults to join and support their Leadership team

Until we are able recruit more help to open a second Cub Pack and find additional “leaders” to join and support our existing Wednesday Cub pack, we have little choice in how we move forward and best manage membership of both our Beaver Colonies and those young people due to move up from them to join Cubs.  As it currently stands members of both Colonies, when they reach 8 years old (or would move to join Cubs), will be put on a waiting list for available spaces within the existing Wednesday Cub Pack.  While Scouting guidelines allow for some flexibility in the ages that children move between sections, Beavers of moving up age would not be able to remain in the section indefinitely as we currently have waiting lists to join our Beaver sections and therefore would need to ensure that spaces in the Colonies are “kept moving”.  The Cub waiting list will then be managed and parents informed when spaces are available.

We will be discussing membership and this situation at our AGM this Friday, 19thJuly.  We would invite parents and any adults wanting to find out more about where they can help the Group to join us for the AGM / Scout Fun night.

We will also be holding an open meeting at 10am Saturday 20th July at the Scout HQ.  If you would like chat with myself and the leader team to find out more information about how you can support the Group and what is involved in becoming a member of our Leadership teams then please do join us.

Yours in Scouting

Kieran Burns
